Last week, we looked at several ideas for what you can optimize for in your business, and how to start that with clearly communicating it to your team.

The next level is to dive into your data. This week, why don’t you check your fulfilment statistics and see if you have any optimisation opportunities there?

How long does your customer wait between ordering and receiving your product or service?

How much of this time is due to external suppliers?

How much of this time is due to internal wait times?

For products, how much warehouse space do you currently pay for?

How full is your warehouse space?

For services, how much staff time do you currently pay for that can be used for serving clients?

How much unused capacity is there?

What are your current customer satisfaction scores like? Are they rising or falling?

Once you’ve gathered those basic metrics, step back. What’s your current strategic focus? What are you optimising for? Growth? Customer service? Getting your name out there?

If you’re optimising for growth, how can you drive demand for your unused capacity? If you don’t have unused capacity, create that first!

If you’re optimising for customer service, how can you speed up fulfilment time without sacrificing quality? Or can you?

If you’re optimising for getting your name out there, how can you improve the customer experience so that your customers want to tell all their friends about you?

What will you optimise this week?
